So we did lose to Sri Lanka

And Australia. And nearly to Bangladesh as well. I think the only thing more hopeless than the England cricket team is the belief that M1 might be doing some training...

2/4 - 15k @17. HR 169, 1h03:50.5. Hot and machine crap. Not using that one again.
3/4 - 4x500m, 1'r. 1:42.7 @33, 1:42.3 @34, 1:41.3 @34 and 1:40.1 @36. Weights and core session after.
4/4 - 3x10', 4'r. Rate build. R24 for 4', 26 for 3', 28 for 2' and then 30 for 1'. Up 2 for each 10' section. Got 2708m, 2730m, and 2734m.
5/4 - 5k @29 - 18:22.9. Not horrendous, but not great - 4th km went slower when I should have been picking the speed up.
7/4 - Played tennis in the morning and then went to watch the Boat Race. Saw Kiera, Sophie and Grey up there.
8/4 - Had headache so decided against training. Proved to be a good decision, spent entire morning dozing off.

Week started well and tailed off. The 4x500m was alright - came out at 6:46. I just need to work out how to do that without the rest periods...

As a foretaste of this coming weeks training I beat the season's best 30min score with another rate capped at 20 effort. The new distance is 8284m.

i had a great conversation with a gym instructor about erg technique today. it started with him offering me some handy 'advice' on not using the back which was a good way to 'make it stronger', and ended with me giving a lengthy exposition on the cambridge stroke, making him row and then ripping his power curve and technique to pieces, explained why ergs dont float, ah it was so much fun :D

Good skills, you should have forced him to watch the boatrace and asked him whether they were wrong to use their backs....

Presumably his initial technique involved rate 45 and pulling a 3 min split?

I've recently had the misfortune of watching people who are training to become gym instructors using the ergs. What chance have they got of teaching people if they can't row properly themselves?

When you say the Cambridge stroke I presume you don't mean you talked about Thorsten Engelmann for an hour...

well, it is true that technique on the erg is different depending on what you're looking for. gym instructors are taught a stroke that you can explain to people in about 5 seconds and should be safe. most people use the erg for a good cardio workout and nothing more, they don't need to care about power curves and whatever, they just need to not muller their back, so i dont really mind that. it just looks shit and i find it funny when people think i don't know what i'm doing, so that i can start ranting on about technique and watch him realise what a mistake he's made :D also, why did thorsten feel the need to be 17st for the boat race? that's just silly

As far as I can work out, he's not that much more powerful (still pulling 'only' 5:50) but he's a stone heavier. I don't quite understand the logic of putting him in the stroke seat either.
