Hi everyone
So I managed to do a bit of training-like stuff in Spain. A couple of 4 mile ish dehydration plagued jogs in 30 degree heat plus a LOT of tennis, and even a core strength session. Since getting back I've finally managed to get the gym at McLaren sorted, however the erg's monitor is buggered so i'll be erging without feedback until they get a new one. I'll do the 5k as soon as they do, or I could row until I reckon I've done 5k and tell you the time? I feel roughly inside world record pace, I would say. I also experimented with the cycle work to the other day, and it's piss easy so I'll do that both ways as well as a 15k on any day where I don't have something better to do in the evening.
Just had an initial "assessment" at the gym. Aside from various interesting elements involving standing still while he looked at me and ticked boxes, there were several things they got me to do. I've listed them below in the hopes of someone getting vaguely competitive in this club and trying to beat me. I may even set them as a collective test if I win this erg test malarky. Anyway:
First they measured my VO2 max, which involved walking on a treadmill, which apparently is an 'indirect' measurement of it. This sounds like bullshit to me however I got 60.5 ml/kg min or 4.5l/min (i.e. not per unit body weight) which is apparently quite good.
Next was supline press ups (I think that was what he called them, basically upside down press ups) for a minute. I got 28, which seemed a bit shit to me, it's surprising how quickly they started hurting.
Then proper press ups in a minute, which I got 38 for I think, which is annoying because last time I got 48 without too much trouble. Maybe the supline ones affected it.
Then Samson's Chair for as long as I could - 3 minutes
Then front plank - 2 mins 30
Then some weird one with cobra in the name - 2 mins 20
Enjoy!
